Here is what a proper asphalt paving installation looks like from start to finish.

Planning and Site Assessment Every quality paving job starts well before the first load of asphalt arrives on site. We assess the area, check drainage, evaluate the existing base, and determine the right asphalt depth and mix for the job. Residential driveways typically require two to three inches of asphalt over a compacted base. Commercial parking lots generally need three to four inches or more depending on the traffic load they will handle. Getting these details right upfront is what separates a paving job that lasts fifteen years from one that starts failing in three.

Base Preparation Base prep is where most contractors cut corners because it takes more time and adds cost to the job. We don’t skip it. We excavate to the right depth, grade the area for proper drainage, and compact the base material before any asphalt is laid. A properly prepared base is the single most important factor in how long your pavement holds up under traffic and weather.

Asphalt Installation Once the base is ready, we bring in the asphalt and lay it to the correct depth and density using professional paving equipment. We compact the surface thoroughly to eliminate air pockets and ensure a smooth, even finish. Edges are finished cleanly and transitions are handled carefully so the final product looks and performs the way it should.

Cure Time and Next Steps Freshly paved asphalt can typically handle vehicle traffic within 24 to 48 hours. In hotter weather it may take a bit longer to fully cure. We recommend waiting at least 90 days before applying sealcoating to new asphalt so the surface has time to fully cure and off-gas before the sealer is applied.
